About these figures
Figures are contract obligations reported to USAspending.gov: purchase orders, delivery orders, BPA calls, and definitive contracts. Grants, loans, and direct payments are left out.
Spending counts toward the agency that signed the award. GSA and VA buy for other agencies, so their totals include work other agencies paid for.
Records arrive late. Most agencies report within 30 days, and Defense records lag about 90 days, so the latest year looks smaller than it will.
